Been in a slump lately. Only one fully functional hand can be a bit discouraging when everything you like to do requires two...... Well, almost everything. Therapist (not "the rapist") today told me that she believes i should be a-ok to ride to Roscoe's in November, so there's definitely a light at the end of the tunnel!

Finally got the bed back on me truck with a little help from kevin and geo. Looks like a real truck again... and you wouldn't believe what a difference a bed makes when it comes to handling. A little orange paint on the tailgate so people will stop asking me "What year Ford is that?"

Oh, and to the anonymous commenter below that wants to take cracks at peoples bikes, feel free to send in pictures of the time your bike broke down on its way back from a cross country trip.... oh, thats right....

So Me and Kevin have been working on a little video project called DayTrippers Video Magazine, involving lots of choppers, road trips, and plenty of good times. Theres plenty of videos out there of dudes firing up their fresh builds, taking a spin around the block, and ripping wheelies in their neighborhood. We wanted to do something a little bit different. We'll have some sweet bike profiles sections coming up soon, and some road trip videos in the near future. There's even gonna be readers rides section where you can submit your own video. I got outta work around noon and was bummed that i was jumping in my truck to go to Daytona. My bike still in pieces, I nearly skipped it altogether out of principle, but decided to go after realizing that a buncha buddies from the Midwest and Alabama were there. It definitely would have been way better with a bike, but you know how we operate by now, we still had a blast. Unfortunately I didnt get any pictures of the Main St debauchery, but Im pretty certain the newest contributor, Jeremiah, over at JRS Cycle Products will be putting up his refined collection soon.

First bike I saw at the Limp Dickie Lot. Cody was more fascinated with the dog strapped to the guys chest. Even more fascinating is homeboys hair.

Spencer is the other half of Garage Company Customs. I liked his bike when I saw the pictures. I fell in love with it when i saw it in person.

I didnt realize it at first, but this was the same bike Rod rode on the Country Mile 3. He decided to finally tear her all the way down and make her pretty. Im certain the nice paint wont stop him from riding the crap out of this machine.

We all stood and giggled when this rig pulled in. We ride these tiny, two wheeled machines packed to the gills with all the equipment we will need for a week, and hit the road. This guy drives a rolling house with his truck in tow, which has his golf cart in the bed. Man, I like our flavor way better....

Been a bit. Sorry dudes. New diggs, lotsa work, bike in the hyperbaric chamber. Nate and Cody flew into town in January to enjoy some sunshine, and Sal and Kris drove all the way from New York just to put a new fuel pump in his truck and help kevin put his frame together. Fun times. Kevo and Kelly just had birthdays this past weekend so its been crazy to say the least. Trying to get back into the swing.

and the regulator was toast. Ah well. I like factory charging systems though. Super reliable for the most part.

This goes back to when we were both living at Kevs parents house. We were the house with 5 vehicles out front and a pile of motorcycles in the garage. The Puerto Ricans across the street was the house with 5 vehicles out front and a pile of rice burners in the garage. I dont know if any of their cars were fast, but they sure worked on them a lot..... and i bet thats exactly what they were saying about our bikes.

Ive been wanting to learn how to weld forever and Geo and Kevin got a score on a tig welder, so i figure now is the time to do it. Cody told me recently that he has never seen me finish a bike before and i realized he was right. She was due for some maintenance and I figured id make her look pretty and run better at the same time. Stay tuned- more to come. In the meantime, bob your head to the new tunes. The movie Due Date got me hyped on Mims and that Lee Jackson tune is a classic. That time of year again fellas. Time to get nuts, swear youll never do anything bad again, and wake up on a floor in a house youve never been in, on the other side of town.

Kevins brother Jesse heard a brilliant idea on the TV the other day. There should be a designated time in the evening where you are only allowed to drive home if you are drunk. That way, the drunks wont hurt anyone but eachother, and those of us that left the bar before said Drunking Hour would have plenty of time to get a 12pack on ice and roll a cooler out to the street corner to watch the silliness.

Well, there isnt a Drunking Hour, so its probably best you call a cab, designate a DD, or ride a bicycle- we dont need a bunch of choppers out there sitting in garages with nobody to ride them.

Forgot how humid it is down here, but from what I heard, I got out just in time before the cold comes in. Got my old job back and have been busting hump delivering construction supplies all over town. Kevo and I were on our way back from the Gearhead tattoo party and got stuck behind a VW Golf with a huge sticker in the back window that read "TAX THE RICH, FEED THE POOR". I looked at Kevin who was laughing along with me and said "tell the poor to get a job". So, I made it to the sunshine state in one piece looking like the Beverly Hillbillies, and man did I forget how humid it is down here! Stopped at Nicks (Haints crew) place in Alabama and almost didnt want to go all the way. Never been to Birmingham, but damn is it a be-yoo-tee-ful city. Been at my parents in Mt. Dora for the last couple days re-adjusting and enjoying the smooth-as-glass roads.... so nice. Heading to Fort Myers on Tuesday to see my barber and go about hunting down a job.

. . and for Nick- spotted a critter-ass race truck on its way to tear up some mud. Thanks for the hospitality! Next time its shirts off hugging and mass alcohol consumption!!

got to hang out with the bravetown boys when they rolled thru town after davenport. Rikk threw a little going away git-together at his place to consume some beers and meat and they rolled in cold as hell. too many beers meant i had to take cover on the couch. Rikk was so sweet, he even tucked me in and made me breakfast sunday morning. Sunday nite was the yearly craziness that is the Cook-out at Dave Cook and JR's shop. man, i've never seen so many people get so liquored up so fast. some craziness ensued, some girls dumped em out, and the evening found me once again crashed on the couch next to Yardsale around the fire pit. kinda become my M.O. at that party, but oh well. Got to ride last nite with the Peej, Peter and Adam... don't get to ride with them all that often these days, so it was like an reunion of sorts. cool to ride around and see the city from all different angles before i leave, but it definitely reminded me of the one thing i will miss the least about Milwaukee.... the roads.

oh, and an interesting article in the onion a while back...

I always manage to not tell people i really love that i'm going somewhere for fear of making them sad, and then i wait so damn long that when i finally do tell them, they get kinda upset that its on such short notice... so to those that aren't finding out till now, or found out recently, I'm going southbound. nothing against Milwaukee, i love it here. Theres always something to do (in the summertime at least) and i've met a lot of killer people up here, its just home is calling, and I'm ready to pick-up the line. I can honestly say i don't think there was a 3 year period in my life that has had this much of an impact on me as the last 3 and a half up here have. I've learned a lot about friends, I've learned a lot about people, and I've definitely learned a lot about partying.... not that i didn't know how to before, just didn't know you could party this hard! There's a lot of you out there I'm gonna miss, and if you didn't find out till now, sorry. I figure it's kinda like a band-aid - just rip it off fast and it will hurt less... still hurts and sucks, but i'm hoping people understand. Its like Full Flavor says, It ain't goodbye, i'ts see you later. Gonna miss a lot of people, places, and the mighty beer selection this town has to offer. And if any of you fools need a place to crash in FL, be sure to let me know. theres always a spot on my couch. And if you are in Daytona for either event, we'll definitely knock a few back and have some fun.

Things may be changing around here too soon after i get down there, but i assure you it will be for the better. And keep your eyes peeled for next summer.... theres some things in the works that are going to be STRAIGHT UP MAMMOTH!

(i keep hearing "epic" is played out, so that's the next best fitting word i could find.)

Life's way too short to walk around pissed off at the world and the people in it. I know there's some things in this world that are completely unforgivable, but there's a lot of situations you can stand back and realize that if you spent as much effort in not liking someone as you did in patching things up, you'd be over your silly spat by now.

remember those choose-your-own-adventure books that we used to pick up in the library? you'd read a few pages and then the book would let you decide what the main characters next move was.... one would be successful, the other would result in falling into a spike pit, or being eaten by a tiger, or whatever. well, thats kinda what this race is like... minus tigers. There are flags on the course at every intersection and its up to you to decide whether to turn left, or right. the correct turn gets you to the next flag, and your next turn decision, while the wrong flag just gets you pissed and has you whippin illegal u-turns all over town. I've never participated, but i'm in this year!

speaking of races in Milwaukee, this past saturday nite, me and a couple buddies hi-tailed it just in time to catch this months Midnite Massacre. hosted by Skyhigh skateshop in Bay View, it's a no holds barred downhill skateboard race with the first to the bottom winning bragging rights and $50 in store credit. and anything goes on this one.... we spotted two dudes rolling coffin style amidst the chaos, one wielding a mini-bat and sporting a pair of rockets strapped to the bottom of his board.

nuts, dude. nuts.

so this past weekend was the annual Rockerbox convention. mostly brit and japanese bikes, theres a lot of cool machines that come out, including all kindsa race bikes. here's the triclops, which is kind of a silly name considering its powered by three nortons..... then again, Norclops just doesn't have the same catchy ring to it....

had a splitting headache all morning so i went home to grab a bite and a nap. FlavorCrystals (Full flavor and Mitch Crystals) were riding up for the evening and wanted to camp in the Kettle Moraine. We settled at Long Lake for a nite of beers, the game, and BS-ing about bagels. Since we were all sawing logs around 10pm, we were up at 5am and contemplating an early departure before the long rolling thunder turned into rain..... too late. napped through the sprinkles, then hit it home.

and yesterday was re-stock-the-fridge-day. I think i found a new delicious friend!

every day behind this desk removes me further and further from what was the most memorable adventure in my life, and i hate it. I turn on the radio to listen to the current state of affairs in this country and can't help but shake my head in udder disappointment. i could sit here and bitch and gripe about it, but what good does it do? who wants to listen to that when you came here to look at choppers and beer reviews (damn... been a while.) All the while i sit here at a point in my life where i look around and say "why not?"
why not sell everything you own save for a few irreplaceable items?
why not get rid of that pickup truck and the monthly payment that goes along with it?
why not jump back on that bike and hit the road?
why not spend a few years under the radar with nothing but my chopper and a sleeping bag enjoying this thing we call freedom?

and then yesterday, as we were waiting for cody to arrive so we could ride out to Burlington, Alex called his phone, only to have a firefighter pick it up and inform him that Cody was on his way to the hospital. Talked to John, Codys dad, who informed us that his femur was broken in 3 places and he received a compound fracture on his shin. this is his second year with a wrecked bike after very little riding time. Heres to a speedy recovery man, we'll see you soon.

Cody wouldn't be able to see visitors for a while, so we headed out for a spin after all.

i put used tires on my bike, not by choice, but because i'm usually broke and i don't mind riding with a plug. Some customer got a flat on a whitewall that was almost brand new, and i can't stand whitewalls.... so i did my best to make this one look acceptable, with a bit of a "Jock E. Shift" twist.

So unfortunately this is the last of the pics I have from our trip to California. I cant express enough just how amazing a trip of this size was, and if i could, it wouldnt have ended.

Kevo came up a day early and my vacation had started, so we took the day to go watch the Wall of Death at the Harley Museum. The Museum picked up the tab all day, but we were sure to donate to the guys insurance fund. Theres Charlie Ransom at the bottom!

I urge you if you have never spent more than two consecutive days on a motorcycle with nothing more than a tent and some clothes on the back your bike, you need to. Never will you learn more about your machine, your friends, or even yourself than when you get out there and do it. I can't help it if you feel as depressed as I was when i first got back to work, but trust me, it's well worth it!

i'd like to send a quick thank you to all of you that loaned an outstretched hand to us at any point on this journey. from charlie and jay in Wyoming who helped us get a wounded frame back on the road, to stephen of Bolts! and Andy of Pangea that helped with Brians Generator struggles. holy crap. 1000? man... it doesn't seem like i've been rambling this nonsense for that long, but i guess i have. I've got a handfull of pictures from the trip that i wanted to post up but google doesn't want to co-operate so i'll show you what i've got from there so far with more to come. i swear, I'm not trying to leave you guys hanging this time for reals.

I didn't want to take a ton of pictures while riding with my phone for fear that it would come to the same demise that kevins did (70 on the freeway: camera, meet concrete!) so heres the only in motion shot i have... other than the ones i shot on brians camera. apparently i don't care if i drop his...

on a trip like this, repair stops are bound to happen more often than not. each one of us would feel bad for holding the group up while the others would look at them with a smile and repeat "We'll each have our turn."

Joe lives with a pack of snowboarders from all different walks of life and theres like 12 of them crammed in one house. Its party all the time and these guys have freezers full of different animals to eat... for instance, Moose Tacos!

Kevo and Brian looking like crew members from Steve Zissous submarine. This was taken inside the garage of Wil, our most gracious host during our short stay in California. Wil, you kick ass and your hospitality is unbeatable! Thank you for letting us scum up your alleyway for a few days and hit on your neighbors. I'm coming back for my el Camino shortly, so be sure shes got fresh oil.

Just outside of denver, we lost kevin as we were leaving out of joes place. I stopped at the exit where we had pulled off for gas to make sure he knew where we had gotten off. after waiting for about 5 minutes, I called, only to hear Kevin ask if Brad had caught up, then to tell me to keep going. His frame had received a death blow and he decided he needed to come up with a different plan to get his bike home. None of us wanted to leave him, but he assured us he was in good hands at Joes place and that we needed to push on. We spotted this bug in the gas station, getting pulled onto a tow truck after blowing a rod, then met a dude named vinnie that recognized brian by the searcher. makes you realize how small this world we live in is.

Oh, and while we were off having fun in this great country of ours, Rob "you got a friend in Metal" Hulz was off destroying the metal world at HellFest with his band Solace. Heres him on stage courtesy of Stephanie who joined him in France for the 3 day concert.

And just because i cant break tradition, heres your #1000 post thumbs up pic. yes, i stole it from Kemosabe but i think its the only fitting thumbs up that works for #1000 anyway. Thanks for staying tuned. more soon, i swear. not much, but more. and more since the trip too!

so i'll leave you with a shot of the coaster boys- Joe and Kevo decided to hop on while we were looking for the circus circus buffet. don't have tons of pictures, but i'll put some up this weekend for certain.

page has been acting up so this is the only way i could do this.

either way, got home at 4am yesterday with a worried spirit. our original 5 man pack had to be divided a couple times over. Turbo is still healing in Cali before his solo ride home, and Kevo is awaiting in Colorado for his friend Gio's arrival with his truck. sucks. really would have liked to have returned as a whole group, but careless drivers and cracked frames have kept us apart. Godspeed boys.

D-Day! kevo got here at 5am and we unloaded the sucker and ran em both through the gears around town all day. we're feeling good and dialed and as long as the 5-0's leave us alone long enough to put on some miles, we should be golden. i can't concentrate at work. i can't think of anything else. I've got a list I've been carrying in my pocket that i keep writing on as i think of spare parts i still need before we head out. my stomach is doing back flips and I've got itchy feet. i'm ready to head em up and move em out. Hate to say it, but facing termination of the trip completely, we decided to revamp it instead. Due to monetary restrictions, kevo is headed up this way and we're going to ride out with the Kemosabe boys. to anyone down south that offered a place to stay, thank you for the offer, and i'm sorry we're going to miss you this time around. haints, see you in L.A. Nash, Max, JB, Cro, DTMC... hope to see you guys soon and pound some miles, bar to bar.

Kevo and i originally were california bound on June 1, do or die. be there or be square. our original goal was the left coast, born free or not. part of me was dying to see the show, the other part didn't care if i missed it, we would be in cali. watching the growing interest in this show (was it ever low interest?) and seeing shots of some of the bikes that are going to be there only makes me sure that i'm not passing this one up. I talk a lot of shit about technological advances over old parts around here, but i still love the old shit and am stoked to see the surprises people are bringing out to this show. I haven't bought my raffle ticket yet, but if there's any left by the time we get there, i'm going to have to.

either way, california here we come....

so far so good. got my exhaust woes squared away and Ive got her at a point where i feel comfortable with her. stayed up late last nite making adjustments and putting together a tool bag and spare parts set-up. a boyscout is always prepared. jumped on the freeway the other day and she was humming.... lets just hope things stay this way... Looks like me and kevin are going to have to re-arrange a few things as for getting out to the left coast. routes are changing, wallets are tightening, we're all on a mad dash to scrape up enough cash to make it home. gonna bring a sack load of "Ride 'em, Don't hide 'em" t-shirts to try and hock on the road... so if you want one, save yourself the $5 shipping fee and get one in person!

talked with kevo, and what he thought was going to make him have to tear the bike apart for some frame modifications, wound up being solved by a homemade chain tensioner.... whew... back on track. and to top it all off, i think we'll both have our jobs when we get home- score!

i don't ever want to get too political on this page much more than saying i love my country, but loathe my government. But, I'll tell you what, the more i listen to what's going on, the more infuriated i become. Talks of enforcing U.S. regulations in AZ has now turned into being a discrimination case with a bunch of people that are illegally in this country protesting for their rights. Politicians making bold-face lies about serving in our countries military, then making a half-assed apology and brushing it off as a "miss communication"..... well, lying politicians is nothing new.... The last major oil spill in this country was the Exxon Valdez 16yrs ago, and what did we do since then in preparation for another? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Instead we'll use it as a great example to teach our children the terrible things that will happen if we continue to rely on fossil fuel. I don't know about you, but I'm not giving up my internal combustion motorcycle without bloodshed. And now we're on the verge of legalizing marijuana? if you know me, you know i enjoy the devil's lettuce, but in a country that's so blind to what goes on capitol hill, the last thing we need is for everyone to be more distracted than they already are. It's bad enough nobody can take their eyes off a pack of obnoxious, self-centered Goombahs partying on the jersey-shore, now you wanna let pot smoking run rampant? yea, that won't keep people from paying attention to anything will it....?

now don't get your panties in a bunch if you don't agree with me... we can still be friends. that's the beauty of this country. We are all allowed to have our own opinions, no matter what they are. Voicing our feelings about our disgust with the government isn't illegal..............

so, i get the whole damn thing together by saturday nite and give her a kick.... and another.... and another.... and another couple dozen. to the point where im out of breath and there isnt even the faintest sign of life in the ol gal. turns out i crossed the two wires that fry your ignition system and it was F-d. I called up cody and told him i was selling my motorcycle and getting a scooter to ride to CA when he informs me that there is a perfectly good 2000i ignition on the workbench at his parents house, and Im welcome to it if i wanted it.... HELL YEA! thanks Cody, i owe you one of my kidneys. after fiddling with every switch on the damn thing and kicking the ever loving crap out of it, i realize that i had the last switch set on single fire. switch it to dual fire, one kick and shes up and running!

few leaks here, few leaks there, an exhaust pipe that decided to jump ship on the way to work this morning, but all in all, shes running great and i couldnt be happier to be in the wind on a totally different machine! Sorry, no pics until after the big trip. i know, dick move, but i gotta stick to it or it will ruin the surprise when i get to New Orleans.

OH! and last nite, i rode her over to my buddy steves cause he wanted to get a look at her and share a celebratory toke.... hung around his place for a bit and he threw in a movie i had heard of but hadnt had the pleasure to watch yet- White Commanche.

Thats right, youre not seeing things. thats William Shatner in a Spaghetti Western. and let me be the first to tell you this one is so bad, its good. Shatner plays a cowboy thats constantly catching hell from the locals wherever he goes. Why is he catching hell? cause his no-good twin brother (shatner again) is head of a tribe of commanches that run around town robbing and killing everyone in sight. Listening to Shatner try to talk like an indian chief makes this movie worth watching- the typical broken up dialoge sounds even funnier when hes trying to do an indian accent! and of course, he does all his own stunts in this one. Would you expect anything less from Captain James T. Kirk!?!?

so, this trip is coming up faster than i can imagine, and i don't think I've even looked at a map yet. we're planning on heading west from New Orleans on June1st and are just taking it as it comes. we'll be hitting campgrounds and overpasses for sleeping spots, but wouldn't mind seeing some friendly faces to get loaded with. So, if you live between Nawlins and San Francisco and are looking for a good time, send me your address and/or phone number.... we promise we won't rob you or kill your dog.

Fair Warning though: we're not running cell phones so on any given day you may just come home from work to a couple of tents in your front lawn.
